DESCRIPTION:
France, mantel clock, 8 day, time and strike, spring driven pendule de Paris movement with visible Brocot escapement in a black slate case with incised floral designs, gilt metal columns, and three classically inspired low-relief friezes depicting a crowd, chariot, soldiers, and an elephant, black slate dial with incised gold Roman numerals and gilt hands.
CONDITION:
The black slate case is in very good condition. There is a small chip in the upper left corner and a few very small chips on other edges. The hands, dial, and beveled glass all look excellent. The pallets are jewels. Some gilding has worn off the metal columns. Incised patterns in the slate are silver and gold and very nice. The movement is unsigned.
